Sometimes, a tooth breaks and you are not aware of it. You might be able to feel a sharp edge if you touch it with your tongue. If it is a large break, then it might hurt, but a small chip might not be apparent. When a tooth is broken, pain might be intermittent or it can be constant. Many people do feel some pain when chewing since that puts extra pressure on a tooth.
If you have a broken tooth, you need to see Dr. Robin Kutner and Dr. Laurel Linetsky-Fleisher. They can look at your tooth and determine what caused it to break. Once they know why the tooth broke, then they will create a treatment plan to repair or replace the tooth. Typically, they will repair it if it can be fixed, if not it might need to be pulled. It will depend on the severity of the break.
